JUNIOR -- PRINTING
The Petroleum Department makes students print very large (20+ pages) lab reports and papers weekly for several different classes, making students pay a large sum of money every semester on printing. Many students on campus do not have their own printers, but should not be forced to pay so much just to turn in their assignments.
Here are a few possible solutions for this problem.
The Petroleum Department should allot students more than just 100 pages a year for printing, this hardly covers the printing cost. The Chemical Engineering Department gives their students more money and gives them free printing…

Computer labs are not cleaned thoroughly often enough
The desks and area around the computer monitors in many labs (especially BB136/Alamode) accumulate junk left by other students, dust, and other debris. The monitors themselves also accumulate dust and pencil marks.
Classrooms that don't have computers don't seem to have this problem. I notice that the floors and chairs are vacuumed so I think it would be a good idea for the desks and monitor area to be cleaned as thoroughly as any other classroom.

Tissues in academic buildings
Its been a pretty rough flu season. Could we get tissue boxes placed in easily accessible spots in the academic buildings?

Can we have a chick-fil-a on campus?
I think the student population would benefit greatly from a chick-fil-a on campus. Most people love a fantastic chicken sandwich while studying. I know it would be a logistics issue but if there's a spot for a chick-fil-a on campus that would be amazing.
80 votesUSG has brought this issue up to the university’s food management team and we are unfortunately not going to be able to pursue this topic. WOW Cafe serves a lot of chicken items and, logistically, due to the size of our institution, it would be financially unsuitable to have two chicken eateries. The only possibility would be to change out WOW for Chick-fil-a, yet WOW offers more options for students. If you have any other dining suggestions please contact USG directly or continue to post on this forum. Thank you for your comment and support for engineering change!

Athletics using money irresponsibly, again?
The athletics department chartered a jet for the soccer team for their games this week. I'm all for supporting our teams and all but the athletics department was in the red last year for poorly managing their budget and had USG and GSG bail them out by increasing student fees. Now we see that they've used our additional student fees for chartering a private jet?
I get that a week is short notice for getting plane tickets but there had to be an economical way of getting our team to their games. It seems like the athletics department is again…
35 votesThe NCAA covers most of the costs associated with these games. The NCAA pays for all flights for our student athletes in this situation. The NCAA could not find a commercial flight for our men’s soccer team last weekend so they paid for a charter flight instead. Mines did not pay a single penny for the charter flight. The NCAA paid for it in its entirety. Thanks :)

Building Locks and Access on Weekends
Hi all, I have a weekly club meeting in Berthoud on Sunday. We follow every instruction to request getting the building unlocked and we send endless emails, but always end up having to call Mines PD to unlock the building. They are getting increasingly mad at our organization, saying that they have more important work to do than unlock the building for us, but nothing is working. Can we fix this situation so clubs and organizations can easily access the buildings they need to host meetings?

Giving female graduates roses at graduation
Upon learning that female grads are to be presented with roses at graduation, I spoke to several female colleagues regarding their feelings. Honestly, we feel that this is patronizing; if the school wants to honor female grads, they could make a plaque with each woman's name on it, and see how the plaques grow over the years. Roses are a traditionally feminine and delicate object, and they do not even remotely represent the effort that ALL graduates put in here.
15 votesHello,
After contacting administration we have been told that the only roses that are given to women graduates happen at the SWE Continuum event, typically the Wednesday night before graduation. This is an event sponsored by SWE for graduating SWE members. Please contact us at minesUSG@gmail.com with further questions. Thanks!

The digital clock outside the SRC has been wrong for 7 years
The digital clock outside the SRC is consistently off by about 10 minutes and it has annoyed me for 7 years. You would think that when the DST happens or when it goes away, the clock would be correct for a day or two, but no, the clock is literally useless to tell time. Please fix.

During the winter months, especially when there's snow, there should be a shuttle that runs up to mines park. I miss my general parking pass and walking 20-30 min when it's wet and cold isn't fun!
15 votesThe Golden Shuttle is a free transportation service and runs on a 30 min schedule Monday-Saturday from 6am – 6:30 pm. However, if you need to get campus not in those times, you can call them to pick you up! Removed Bike Racks
The construction and landscape work around the Coorstek building caused the removal of 2 bike racks outside of Green Center, without the addition of any nearby. There is a small rack on the Hill Hall end of Green Center, and the one between Marquez and CTLM, the latter of which is usually full. We need a rack for students to park their bikes on that is nearer to the Coorstek/Green walkway.

Minimum number of student for a class is too high
Mines has a variety of classes offered, which suits different people's interest. However, the minimum number of 10 students is required to have a class is too much, especially if the class is specific. Consequently, this destroys the variety of classes Mines offers, as classes with not enough students are canceled.
Some classes aren't even offered at other places, so let's keep the variety of classes being offered here.

Health Insurance Coverage After Graduation
As of now, there is no post-graduate health insurance support for students using the SHIP. Most employers would offer at minimum, a 3 month buy in option for an employee that is leaving. Also for example, CU and CSU have options for students to maintain their insurance for 6 months or more after graduation.
The "Official" advice is to either enroll in a temporary coverage plan (for reference, see the attached email), to rely on your next employer, or to be privileged enough to rely on a parent or spouses plan. These solutions are all potentially inadequate for students facing…

JUNIORS Library Hours
I believe that the library does not open early enough on the weekends as well as it closes to early. On Sundays it open at 11am which means students that do not have an adequate studying area cannot access it until half of the day is gone. That also applies to it closing at 5pm on Saturdays, it cuts people off from their study schedule that they are used to throughout the week.
Students are used to being on campus and at their classes early all week and then stay late to study on the days we need to. It…9 votes -
idigmines Soliciting Funds from Students
Mines should not have to resort to soliciting funds from students to fund programs for students. We have one of the highest average starting salaries out of any school in the world and have a huge number of corporate sponsorships. There is no need for Mines to ask students to donate money on top of what we pay in tuition, especially when the foundation could easily concentrate their attention on soliciting funds from other sources.

No place to recycle ink cartridges on campus.
There are many students on campus with their own printers on campus. When those printers run out of ink the cartridge just gets thrown away. ink cartridges are horrible for the environment in landfills but could be easily recycled. It's literally as simple as putting up a box in the student center.

JUNIOR-- Availability of LAIS Classes
Please consider revising the availability of LAIS classes, such as the number of sections of each class, class times, and number of seats in each class. As a student entering my second semester of junior year, it should not be this difficult to find an LAIS class that fits into my schedule without displacing other major specific courses, especially since LAIS classes are required for graduation. Diversification of LAIS class hours and opening larger LAIS classes would greatly simplify scheduling classes. Thanks!

Mental Health on Mines Campus (Junior)
Mental health is not valued as much as it shoulf be on campus. I have dealt with faculty/staff who have told those with mental illness to not talk to people about it because "it is disturbing". Active Minds at Mines and the counseling center are trying to help students with mental health and dealing with mental illness. What we lack is an openness on campus about how much mental illnesses affect people on campus. We need to teach faculty, staff and RAs how to talk to those with mental illness. They shouldn't be telling people just try to be happy…

Mines market food is bad
The lawns on campus are wasteful. We already pay a staff to maintain the grounds, so instead of lawns we should grow vegetables. Then use the produce in Mines Market to improve the quality of the food and reduce the cost.

Parking Services wont allow incoming freshman to get parking passes
This wont affect me, however i think its unfair that next year's class of freshman wont be allowed to bring a car to campus.
Having a car on campus my first year has made a huge impact on my life. Im able to go get decent food, im able to go skiing on the weekend, im able to be free.
With this new policy change, the incoming class is going to be pigeonholed on campus which seems like an easy way to become depressed. Doing this forces people to be apart of the community which is only going to drive…
