Health Insurance Coverage After Graduation
As of now, there is no post-graduate health insurance support for students using the SHIP. Most employers would offer at minimum, a 3 month buy in option for an employee that is leaving. Also for example, CU and CSU have options for students to maintain their insurance for 6 months or more after graduation.
The "Official" advice is to either enroll in a temporary coverage plan (for reference, see the attached email), to rely on your next employer, or to be privileged enough to rely on a parent or spouses plan. These solutions are all potentially inadequate for students facing serious health issues - if I am not fortunate enough to have a job when I graduate, even with the temporary "health.gov" or "Cobra" plans, I will be bankrupt in 3 months, as (surprisingly!) you need an income to be able to pay for it. Also, it's often the "Bare bones package," which again, is not adequate for students with major health concerns.
