  1. Please get the jesus people out of the buildings

It's two weeks to finals, and I'm trying to study. Twice today I have been interrupted by Christian groups trying to evangelize me and rope me into conversations while I am clearly trying to get work done. One of these was inescapable for over 30 minutes. I don't care what they practice or believe, but can we please set some guidelines about people who don't even go to this school coming and trying to evangelize me when I clearly don't have the time? I also really don't want people praying for me without my consent, it's weird and invasive.

  2. [SERIOUS] There are too many cum trees on campus

While the title may read as a joke, the cum tree is a real thing. Its scientific name is pyrus calleryana and here's the link to the Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrus_calleryana
Googling "cum tree" will also pull up this page.

This tree is called the a cum tree based on the smell that it produces while blooming. It has been described as rotting fish or semen. Unfortunately for us, there are several of these trees all over campus and they all bloom at the same time. This causes our beautiful campus to smell like someone just finished having sex with the…

  3. For god's sake unlock the damn doors.

Why on earth are the doors to buildings like brown locked at night and on the weekends?

This school keeps people working night and day, but denies them access to the resources they need for almost half of that time. People get in anyways, with varying amounts of time, so all this policy does is waste people's time and force them to gamble on whether or not they will be able to get in.

Buildings like Brown are one thing (not in that it's OK for them to be locked, it isn't, but at least there's usually somebody inside to…

  4. Transparency Regarding SRC Fees

Currently, I am paying about $200 for the "rec center fee" each semester, and I would just like to know exactly what is being done with the money I pay. As far as I can tell, the money is being used in an extremely inefficient fashion. Local gyms charge about $30-$50 a month, depending on level of contract commitment, relevant student discounts, etc. Assuming a four month term at $50 dollars an hour, then the SRC is right on par with these gyms. The only difference is that local gyms often service 500-1000 people, give or take. At the bare…

  5. E-Days Packets Filled with Free Beauty Samples

On a very shallow level, I am disguntled with MAC for filling my E-Days packet with free samples of beauty products I do not want or need, but potentially paid money for.

On a more societal level, this is an irresponsible use of resources in addition to reaffirming society's view of beauty for women. (On a separate note, were the packets separated based off of gender, or did men also receive women's razors, shampoo, and various other beauty products)? I understand that Home Advisor helped sponsor the concert, and maybe some of the other brands did as well. I get…

  6. No Exams the Night Before E-days

I have a 7:30pm exam on Thursday, April 12 which is the night marking the start of E-days. The exam is for Math454 and there are approximately 50 students in the class. Therefore, I will have to miss Casino night and Mr. Big Digger.

I find it unfair that I will have to skip out on a school-sponsored event due to a scheduled exam. I urge USG to consider working with the registrar to not only move my exam to a different night, but also to disallow exams in the future on the night of E-days.

  7. Health Insurance Coverage After Graduation

As of now, there is no post-graduate health insurance support for students using the SHIP. Most employers would offer at minimum, a 3 month buy in option for an employee that is leaving. Also for example, CU and CSU have options for students to maintain their insurance for 6 months or more after graduation.

The "Official" advice is to either enroll in a temporary coverage plan (for reference, see the attached email), to rely on your next employer, or to be privileged enough to rely on a parent or spouses plan. These solutions are all potentially inadequate for students facing…

  9. AP/IB classes should count HASS/LAIS/EBGN elective credit

I do not understand why liberal arts AP/IB tests only count as free elective credits. There are so many HASS/EBGN elective credit hours required to graduate, and many AP/IB classes are parallel to the liberal arts electives provided here. Why wouldn't a 4 or a 5 on AP (or a 5-7 on IB) tests for classes like the following count?

    ~ English Literature and Composition
    ~ English Language and Composition
~ Macroeconomics (yes, this can count for EBGN 201, but only if you have received a 4 or a 5 on both this and Microeconomics)
    ~ Microeconomics (see above)
    ~…

  10. Parking Services wont allow incoming freshman to get parking passes

This wont affect me, however i think its unfair that next year's class of freshman wont be allowed to bring a car to campus.

Having a car on campus my first year has made a huge impact on my life. Im able to go get decent food, im able to go skiing on the weekend, im able to be free.

With this new policy change, the incoming class is going to be pigeonholed on campus which seems like an easy way to become depressed. Doing this forces people to be apart of the community which is only going to drive…

  11. Building Locks and Access on Weekends

Hi all, I have a weekly club meeting in Berthoud on Sunday. We follow every instruction to request getting the building unlocked and we send endless emails, but always end up having to call Mines PD to unlock the building. They are getting increasingly mad at our organization, saying that they have more important work to do than unlock the building for us, but nothing is working. Can we fix this situation so clubs and organizations can easily access the buildings they need to host meetings?

  12. Move the Piano in Brown

I understand that this issue has already been brought up, but I feel the need to voice the opinions of not only myself, but a host of other students who study in brown. The large area for study is meant for studying. It's more than just a small distraction, I am currently on the second floor of brown and I can still hear the piano.

I understand that playing the piano may be a great de-stress activity for many students, and that's great. But doing it loudly right in front of students who are studying for difficult exams, writing reports,…

  13. Stop giving commuter pass holders parking tickets when the commuter lots are full

I have classes at 11 am on Mondays and Wednesdays. These are peak hours for parking, and lately when I've arrived on campus all of the commuter lots are full, including Lots A, F, FF, J, Q, and the spots available around sororities and fraternities. I tend to arrive about 20 minutes before classes start, and I and many other students must drive around to all of these lots, waiting for spots to open up. In some cases, no spots are available, so lately many students have been parking outside marked spaces in Q lot, without impeding the flow of…

  14. Speed Bumps on Campus

People driving through campus are driving like there is no speed limit. I can't count the number of time I have almost been while walking and while trying to back out of a spot on Greek Row or non-parking lot parking because people are not paying attention and driving too fast. I feel as though there should be some kind of speed bumps put around campus to prevent this from happening.

  15. MAC (Mines Activity Council)

MAC (Mines Activity Council) needs to have more checks and balances in place. I understand they plan a lot of the events on our campus but their organization should not be so much above all other campus clubs. Not only do all of their members get paid for the time they “work” but their funds also pay for them all to receive +$100 embroidered jackets every year, expensive retreat dinners (nice sushi restaurant) and a weekend trip to Boston (which I understand was for a conference but all other clubs have to pay for their own way to most events…

  16. No Stop Sign in Ford Commuter Lot

In the Ford commuter lot, there is an intersection on the Northwest side of the building between traffic in the parking lot and traffic coming into the lot from 19th street. Right now, there are lines on the ground where it looks like a stop sign used to be, but the lines on either side of the intersection are very faded and nearly not visible from a car. I have almost had a collision there multiple times, and I feel as though safety in this intersection would improve greatly if a sign was placed there, or even in the lines…

  17. idigmines Soliciting Funds from Students

Mines should not have to resort to soliciting funds from students to fund programs for students. We have one of the highest average starting salaries out of any school in the world and have a huge number of corporate sponsorships. There is no need for Mines to ask students to donate money on top of what we pay in tuition, especially when the foundation could easily concentrate their attention on soliciting funds from other sources.

  18. Online Assignment Cost

I do not believe that we should have to pay for online assignments in classes where it isn't included with a textbook. How it normally works; a student pays tuition, a professors assigns homework, a TA grades the work, the TA is paid by the school. Because online homework is automatically graded, the cost for the online resources should come from the money that they aren't paying TAs, not out of our pocket on top of tuition.

  19. Computer science field needs to allow students to count an internship for coursework or let them get payed for doing field session

It's ridiculous that it's illegal to not pay an intern for work that a company profits off of and the computer science department has the audacity to have students do work for a company and not only not pay them, but charge them for it and ban companies from paying them. The department recommends to take it during the junior year, when most students would get their best internship. I, and many people I know, have lost internship offers after companies learned that we need to do field session. Mines charges over $3,000 to in state students and over $5,000…

Hello! Thank you for voicing your concern to us! After many discussions, it appears that the computer science field session will begin to be offered during both the summer and the fall semesters beginning in 2019! This allows students to have the option of whatever works best with their schedules! More information will be coming in spring 2019 regarding the details of this change. Hopefully this comes as good news!

    Best, USG

  20. Mines Park Price Increase

In case anyone has not heard, Mines Park is planning on increasing rent prices next year. The new prices are as follows
    Single: 1196/month
    Double: 819/person/month
    Triple: 749/person/month
For a double apartment, which is the most common, this is an increase of $164/person/month. (All prices below will be for doubles) While the new rent prices now include electricity, this is a cost of about $35/person/month and in no way justifies the major price increase. For a 10 month first year lease, that is $496 than the new res hall prices for 2 semesters, and for a year long lease it…
