USG has had a meeting with the administrator who plans graduation. Although we only get 4 guests per person, you are able to request extra tickets!

Last year everyone who requested extra tickets ended up getting them (except for someone who requested 16 tickets).

They have also created other options to make it easier for your friends and family to attend graduation. For graduation this May, there will be an extra section in Kafadar for ANYONE to come and watch, no tickets needed. The section will be on the other side of Kafadar. It will have a giant screen set up where ticketless guests may sit and watch the graduation happening on the other side of Kafadar.

I agree that 4 sounds like a few, but in past years it has almost always ended up working out.

I feel like the school should be more accommodating to larger families. I barely got enough tickets (even after pleading for more) for my IMMEDIATE family to come to graduation, and that is only because my youngest sibling can be a lap child. I think the school should have an allowance for at least these important members of your family to attend together. It seems as though those of us with larger families can really get screwed out of a good deal because of this limited space, especially when siblings are all younger, (as in all under 13); they need to sit with family members to keep track of them and keep them safe.

Pricing based on vehicle size: Most of the spots on campus are not on the street so we do not think that pricing based on vehicle size would be a good option.

Pass enforcement: It makes it easier for the student workers to have the pass be consistently in one place.

Parking office: We will bring up in our meeting that this is “hostile” but it’s a joke it is not meant to be taken seriously,

Buying passes based on the day: We can bring this up in a meeting on the logistics of buying passes for specific days. Most people have classes at least four days of the week, however, so I don’t know how much of a benefit this would be.

Motorcycle pass: We discussed this issue and decided that we are not going to pursue it. There are a lot of other issues that we are working…

A parking garage will not happen in the near future. There are more spots than there are passholders. Much of the parking just isn’t centralized, like Q lot and Ford lot, and people don’t want to walk from that far away. Even if a parking garage was going to go up it would be in one of these locations, so people would still have to walk from those ends of campus. Also it’s extremely expensive, thousands of dollars per spot, and the school does not have the money.

UPDATE: We took the concern to faculty senate. Overall, the plus minus system has brought up average GPA. However, we do see how the A- might hurt the students who normally get A’s. Faculty senate has asked us to poll the students to get more information on the issue, so that will be going out in an email soon.

    UPDATE
Right now it’s up to the teacher’s discretion whether or not their class has a +/- grading system. When we polled the student body there was not enough interest in making this change. Thank you for your time and if you still have concerns you can try to speak with your professor about it.

    Sincerely,
    USG
