We asked Mines dining about why Subway closes at the times it does and they responded by telling us that they monitor how many people come into Subway at a time. Since not as many people frequent Subway as the other dining locations they felt it was in the student’s best interest to close it earlier because if it was open longer and more often it would raise the overall Meal Plan costs for all of the other students. So since, it is not as frequented as other establishments it’s not open as long because it is not cost effective to keep it open for longer. If you feel strongly about this matter and are okay with potentially raising the costs, feel free to email us or come stop by our office hours!

    Sincerely,
    USG

USG has engaged in a conversation with Sodexo about the meal exchanges. We are looking into the contract with them to see if we are able to bring them back. We will keep you updated as we work on this.

You can also attend the Food Committee Meeting on Friday at 12pm in Mines Market to voice this concern.

    UPDATE

USG has been able to extend hours at Mines Market, but not yet bring back meal exchanges. Thant is something we will continue to work toward for next school year.

    UPDATE;
We advise that you contact your teacher directly in an effort to get a timeline for when the exam will be returned. It may also be beneficial to contact the department head as they may have information for you. As far as enforcing the two week rule, it is something we have and will continue to look into.

    Sincerely,
    USG

We will have our At Large to the Faculty bring this up at their next faculty meeting and keep you updated on what they say.

    Hello!

We met with our CIO and he informed us that there were some major changes made and bugs fixed that should prevent nearly all blackboard crashes in the future. Hope this helps!

    Love,
    USG

We are going to ask the blackboard administrator why these errors occur so often. Once we get that information we will work on what to do next!

For the 2015/2015 school year Club Sports, IM Sports, Be Well, and the ORC are all in charge of distributing the money they get allocated as a whole amongst themselves. How they spend their money and the decision to charge for IM sports will be entirely up to them. We expressed how upset students are about the charge to John Howard, who is in charge of IM sports, so we hope that changes are made for next year.

    Love,
    USG

    Hello,

We agree that IM sports should be free. The issue here is that there was a $17,000 field maintenance fee dropped on IM Sports and Club Sports at the beginning of the semester that was not expected. IM Sports has to cover $10,000 while Club covers $7,000.

This fee was charged by facilities at the beginning of the school year, after allocations had taken place. Allocations take place…

Pricing based on vehicle size: Most of the spots on campus are not on the street so we do not think that pricing based on vehicle size would be a good option.

Pass enforcement: It makes it easier for the student workers to have the pass be consistently in one place.

Parking office: We will bring up in our meeting that this is “hostile” but it’s a joke it is not meant to be taken seriously,

Buying passes based on the day: We can bring this up in a meeting on the logistics of buying passes for specific days. Most people have classes at least four days of the week, however, so I don’t know how much of a benefit this would be.

Motorcycle pass: We discussed this issue and decided that we are not going to pursue it. There are a lot of other issues that we are working…

We brought this up in USG and it seems the majority of people favor the 24 hour policy and think that it is fair. We’d rather not risk anyone getting an F unknowingly, even if it was a mistake they made. People make mistakes, we don’t want to see students ruining their GPA because of it. If you know you are on a waitlist for a class, check your email.

    Love,
    USG

UPDATE: We took the concern to faculty senate. Overall, the plus minus system has brought up average GPA. However, we do see how the A- might hurt the students who normally get A’s. Faculty senate has asked us to poll the students to get more information on the issue, so that will be going out in an email soon.

    UPDATE
Right now it’s up to the teacher’s discretion whether or not their class has a +/- grading system. When we polled the student body there was not enough interest in making this change. Thank you for your time and if you still have concerns you can try to speak with your professor about it.

    Sincerely,
    USG

Still, they are national holidays on the order of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year's. They should be observed regardless of heating costs or breaks.

So this post is old, but we have new info! First, I believe a blinking light was put in to allow pedestrians to cross more easily, so hopefully that helped! However, part of the 6th and 19th crossing planning includes putting a roundabout at the 19th and Elm intersection. This won’t be in construction for another year or so but will probably cause some issues in the future. Just want to let you all know that USG voiced our concerns to the planning committee at the last meeting about 6th and 19th about the pedestrian crossing, but that is all we can do for now!

UPDATE: The hours at the new market in Elm are going to be open longer, available for money, munch money, and meal swipes.

Sodexo is currently thinking about extending the hours of the Slate Cafe during the weekdays, potentially until 9pm. However, if this was the decided course of action, Slate would be closed for a few hours during the day when there is minimal traffic-same with early weekends.

Any further opinions about this subject can be sent to samcoope@mymail.mines.edu.

Chris Pacher (Junior Class USG) plans to bring this up at the next Sodexo dining committee meeting. We will update you with any new news. Thanks for being patient!

Last year USG was able to improve the REC center hours on weekends. They are staying open one hour earlier and one hour later on both Saturday and Sunday.

The REC center is currently in debt, but is climbing out of it. We should see more and more hours over the next few years as the REC center as they get out of debt.
