Unfortunately, this closure along with others is simply due to the lack of business that Blaster's Brew and other on campus food venues are receiving. I have heard news that administration is planning on more on campus classes next semester, so hopefully this will lead to Blaster's Brew opening back up.

USG certainly understands your frustration as many of us are in your position. Sydney, faculty at-large officer, is spearheading USGs effort to address these concerns with administration. I brought forward your concerns at senate last week. If you wish to take more action, you can attend USG Senate where we have a public forum at the end and/or you can attend Sydney's office hours. You can find times and links to both of these on our website: https://usg.mines.edu/

Thank you for your engagement. USG does not plan or run homecoming. MAC does run these events and send a rep to our senate meetings (Tues night at 6:30pm). You can find the zoom link for USG senate and contact information for the MAC representative on our website: https://usg.mines.edu/

USG completely understands you frustration as many of us are experiencing the exact same things. However, Mines has waived a lot of fees. Yet, the cost to operate campus had only increased to make classes remote/ hybrid accessible. Also, the fees have been frozen for this semester.

My apologies on the lateness of our response. Firstly, there are many options remote and online classes. However for in person and hybrid classes, the Mines administration is taking many precautions to address this issue. You can check the current number of cases at the covid dashboard: https://www.mines.edu/coronavirus/covid-19-cases/

Thank you for your engagement. Administration has realized these issues and taken steps to address the crowdedness. New residence halls such as Spruce and 1750 Jackson have dedicated gyms inside of them. Additionally, there are plans to expand the gym in the future.

Sorry for the late response. This question would be best suited for the Graduate Student Government (GSG). From joint meetings last year, I believe GSG said it was because online grad students pay $999 a credit hour and they do not pay fees. Many of the on campus resources are only available through these fees. This is certainly something to bring up to GSG as I imagine many other students are in your situation. The president is Maxwell Silver and his email is gsgpresident@mines.edu

Hi! Our understanding is that Mines is doing their best to minimize security issues. With regards to OrePrint, we will reach out to CCIT to see if we can have that added!

We brought this up to the Parking Committee and received some clarification: on the old parking meters, the 30 minute increment was a result of a programming error by the installer. They also let us know that there are free 30 minute parking spots on campus and that more will be added (e.g., in the garages). Another reason for this change is that hourly rate reduce the number of tickets given to students and that in general, parking tries to mitigate tickets as they are not the source of income for the department. I hope this helps!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We recently discussed this issue with parking and they plan to look at different locations to identify where parking lines could be added. Unfortunately, many of the streets are privately owned, so Mines cannot mark the road. For your second point, Parking agreed and assured us that the number of reserved parking passes will be decreased. We hope you see improvements soon!

Thank you for voicing your concern! We have reached out to the Director of Facilities Management on campus about this issue. Please keep posting any additional details that develop so we can continue to support your concerns. We will keep you updated on this page.

Update: Here is a message from the custodial department. They are fighting the flu as best they can but don't have the budget to provide tissues across campus.

"The custodial department does not have the budget right now for providing tissues throughout campus. I can tell you what we do already to try to help out. You probably don’t know, but the custodial department utilizes a “mister” machine after hours that essentially mists a room with a disinfectant that lands on all surfaces and disinfects them. We have done this all over campus this year and we try to do this at least at the beginning of each semester and we may do another round again this semester because of the flu season being bad. We also try to regularly wipe down doorknobs, etc. with disinfectant wipes on a regular basis."

Please let us know anything else you may need.

Thanks for reaching out! We’re glad you’re interested in USG and what we’re doing.

First off, we apologize that you’re upset over allocations. While some of the numbers and budget management you described are incorrect, we invite you to learn more about the Student Fee allocations process. Tonight during our regular Senate meeting at 6:45 in BE205, we will begin small presentations from each governing body on spending and what each is using their allocated money for.

Our treasurer is also available during office hours throughout the week and can help you understand the USG budget. Treasurer office hours can be found on our website, usg.mines.edu. Any fee-paying student can request an expense report from the treasurer at any time during the academic year.

In addition, we also have allocation meetings scheduled later in the semester for the actual process where governing bodies complete formal presentations and decide on money…

Thank you for pointing out that the meeting minutes weren't up to date. They should be now.

As for the correct numbers, we would love to continue this conversation moving forward. You may attend Senate tonight at 6:45 in BE205 where we will be presenting our budget update and expenditures thus far. Or if you would prefer, set up an appointment with the USG Treasurer and President that way we can clear things up and get on the same page.

    Love,
    USG
