Rumors re: graduation schedule for next semester
It is rumored that the graduation schedule will be changed next semester so some students would graduate on Thursday night, others on Friday, and all inside. We would be divided by majors. We started together, we should end together. Dividing for the sake of convenience for the school greatly takes away from the meaning of the day for us. Graduation is an incredibly important day that we have all worked towards TOGETHER, we should all be together in the end.

USG is meeting with the executive board of Mines and plan to discuss graduation concerns at this meeting. We have sent out a survey to relay all student concerns regarding this manner. We plan to bring your concerns to the executive board and will return to this post with an update.

The people that are commenting on favor the 3 graduations, did you experience them last year? On one hand, yes it is kind of nice to sit through a smaller graduation ceremony. But during that third graduation ceremony it just felt like nobody cared. The board of trustees didn't show up, you can't see any of the speakers live, and chances are half your friends graduated hours before you and you didn't get to share this experience with them. I was in the second session and already all of the faculty looked exhausted and like they didn't want to be there.
Having the three sessions might be more convenient for some, but I went through 4 years of the most difficult engineering program I could, I'd at least like to see the speakers in person during my graduation ceremony and feel like the faculty actually care about my graduation session.
This is just my input as someone that graduated in the three sessions and found it disheartening, and would have rather had it as one session.

First off, you're making it seem like sitting outside for graduation will be the hardest thing we have done at Mines. Bring your flasks and deal with it.
Let's think about this logically everyone... if we have graduation on Thursday and Friday, this will cause parents and family that aren't from Colorado to have to take off potentially half a week in order to attend graduation. By having graduation on Saturday, family will have a much easier time attending.

I disagree.
May graduation is horrifically long. Hours of names being read. Why should I have to sit through hundreds of names being read, 90% of which mean nothing to me?
Splitting by major makes far more sense. That way the people graduating with you are people you know.

It's also for the sake of students and those watching. Those long ceremonies in the sun are miserable for anyone that isn't fairly young and spry. Even then, sitting in graduation gowns on the field is exhausting and many people don't have such a strong tie to other majors. That's what graduation parties are for.
