Actually Use the Emergency Alert
I feel like after the event near Mines Park last night it needs to be addressed. Last night there was an imminent threat, and once again no text about it and not even an email yet at 9am the morning after. This year there has been 2 potential shooters and a package that was viewed as a bomb threat. It'd be nice to actually make use of the system that is supposed to protect us. What's the point of testing the equipment if it is never going to be used. Last year I got a text about an active shooter from the school I did dual-credit through in high school 2 years before. I don't see how they're able to keep contacting people that don't even attend but this prestigious school doesn't make me feel safe in the least
The Mines administration in conjunction with Mines PD are in the process of re-vamping the mines app which will contain a more comprehensive emergency alert function. In addition they are trying to implement a ‘notification’ system that will function like the alert system, in regard to non-pressing matters.

There was also a break-in to a home just a block away from campus and yet, nothing happened. I saw someone who was EXTREMELY sketchy on campus last semester, and no recourse for that either.

This past summer there was a stabbing extremely near campus and we weren't notified. I am very mad that mines would not alert us about this. It felt very unsafe. We need to restructure the way Mines handles emergencies all around golden and campus.

I agree wholeheartedly. I live in Mines Park and I learned about the threat via YikYak as it happened because someone said 19th street was closed off with police just after the 6th intersection. I was in my room and pretty scared, especially since none of the apartments have deadbolts. I have been talking to ResLife since then about getting deadbolts in Mines Park for safety, since anyone can walk into the complex. The same push-lock mechanism for my bathroom door should not be the only thing protecting me from some rando breaking in.
