    UPDATE:
Currently CTLM has a dedicated 24 hour computer lab with a lot of computers and software! Any student, no matter what major or year, can use these computers. USG acknowledges that there should be more space on campus for 24 hour dedicated computer labs. We will continue in the future to advocate for new computer labs. For example, the new library renovation project will create new space for more computer labs accessible to all students.

    Sincerely,
    USG

Update: It is in the short future of capital planning to create two more computer labs. One will be a teaching lab in Chauvenet and the other will be in Brown building. A definite timeline is not yet known. It is still a class project to work on longer access in Brown.

USG has had a meeting with the administrator who plans graduation. Although we only get 4 guests per person, you are able to request extra tickets!

Last year everyone who requested extra tickets ended up getting them (except for someone who requested 16 tickets).

They have also created other options to make it easier for your friends and family to attend graduation. For graduation this May, there will be an extra section in Kafadar for ANYONE to come and watch, no tickets needed. The section will be on the other side of Kafadar. It will have a giant screen set up where ticketless guests may sit and watch the graduation happening on the other side of Kafadar.

I agree that 4 sounds like a few, but in past years it has almost always ended up working out.

You could also make attending graduation completely optional, since from what I hear it is mandatory.

UPDATE: We are going to decline this issue right now since it was posted so long ago but if it still an issue please just post again and then we will address it. We just don’t know if this is still an issue since it’s been two years.

The Junior Class USG is willing to take this project on. To formally voice your opinion and/or suggestions, stop by their office hours in Digger Den at 5-6pm on Wednesdays or by email at samcoope@mymail.mines.edu.

Actually it shouldn't even be moved back to its original location, it should be located in a lounge somewhere. I love the idea of having access to a piano for those who play, but having it in a study area is absurd anyway. Also, to further the point that some student's may be a little less comfortable, there are several lounges around campus that are even more secluded than Brown, including the Rec Center.

So this post is old, but we have new info! First, I believe a blinking light was put in to allow pedestrians to cross more easily, so hopefully that helped! However, part of the 6th and 19th crossing planning includes putting a roundabout at the 19th and Elm intersection. This won’t be in construction for another year or so but will probably cause some issues in the future. Just want to let you all know that USG voiced our concerns to the planning committee at the last meeting about 6th and 19th about the pedestrian crossing, but that is all we can do for now!

Keep in mind that adding a stoplight there could have the potential to dangerously backup traffic onto 6th as well as increase traffic on 19th in general. A better solution would be to have a stoplight that only activated when pedestrian's pressed a button and only applied to stopping for pedestrians. As bad as turning off Elm onto 19th can be during rush hours I cannot support adding a full stoplight there, but it appears that enough people have this issue that a modified pedestrian stoplight might be worthwhile.

Then again, you can always walk down the block to the stoplight and cross there, may be a longer walk but it sounds like it may take a shorter time...

I agree with this concern and have a fairly easy solution: hire more graders and give them deadlines, then require they use Bb to post those grades. Not only does this facilitate learning but it creates more accountability when determining grades at the end of a semester.

ALL computer labs should be open earlier and stay open later (ideally 24/7) and be more accessible in general. Brown building included. Many programs are not available on the machines in the library or in CTLM that are on the ones in Brown (I'm sure that's the case with other buildings/majors too). Additionally, the labs should be available on weekends AND certain holidays (including fall break, spring break, and the Sunday after Thanksgiving). I have basically given up trying to work on campus because most of the time I cannot access what I need when I have time to do it. Seems to me that the administration at this school thinks it's more important to save money than to give the students access to the facilities they need to complete their work. The number of people I know who have this complaint is, well, everyone I've talked to about it. Most other schools around the nation provide better access than Mines, as far as I'm concerned this issue is downright pathetic...
