Meeting rooms should be high occupancy only.
Lone students should not be allowed to use meeting rooms by themselves.
9 votesUPDATE:
Sevy Swift, USG’s Vice President, came with a solution that makes it easier to share study rooms in Brown with other students. Sevy designed and installed ‘occupancy signs’ which make it clear to other students if someone is willing to share a study room. We hope that this increases the occupancy of the study rooms in Brown. We would like to hear feedback on this new system and are open for other suggestions!Sincerely,

Reconfigure some of the computers on campus for taller people
There is lots of evidence to suggest that poor posture while sitting at a computer is bad for you. Your feet are supposed to be on the floor, knees at 90, back straight, elbows a 90 and the monitor should be directly in front of your eye line. When I try to use the computers in Brown, CTLM or Marquez I feel like a giant trying to ride a child bicycle. I cant stay for very long without getting serious pain in my neck and back. Would it be possible to make a few of the computers on campus set…
1 voteUnfortunately, at this time there is no way to custom make a computer desk, however, you can adjust the seats and heights in most computer labs. We believe that there are some special computer desks in the library and there is a standing computer desk setting in CTLM.

All of the wood-topped tables in the library
All of the wood-topped tables in the library are awful when trying to do homework. They are way too porous and/or the grain to broad. I'm either poking holes all over the page from my pencil graphite or I have a straight-side letter Q due to the grain hiding just beneath my E2 paper. They either need new surfaces or junked for new tables altogether. A fine engineering institution should have nice smooth table tops!
6 votesThe Library is due to be renovated in summer 2017. The tables in this space are likely to be replaced during this process.

There should be a way to monitor inactivity in common computer labs
It seems unfair that people are allowed to leave a computer for more than thirty minutes but stay logged on. Many times I have tried to work in the ctlm computer labs, which itself is a hot commodity I know, and people have left their belongings at a computer but are nowhere in site.
On another note I have sat in ctlm for over an hour with no one next to me. Then when a friend or random person goes to sit down, another person is still logged in to the computer when no others are available. This can create…

Let's fix the M!
Over fall break, the M was struck by lightning, damaging part of the M's electrical system. The lightning burnt out half of the white light bulbs and damaged several sections of the M making it impossible to light the M white. The M will remain red indefinitely. The old M can't be fixed since it is out of code so a complete overhaul of the M would be needed. As a member of Blue Key who spends a lot of time working on the M, the M's electrical system is in bad shape. The structure is literally falling apart.

Subway needs to be open later
Why does Subway close at 5PM now? As a student that doesn't have a meal plan and who isn't going to pay to go to Mines Market, this is a pretty big inconvenience.
20 votesWe asked Mines dining about why Subway closes at the times it does and they responded by telling us that they monitor how many people come into Subway at a time. Since not as many people frequent Subway as the other dining locations they felt it was in the student’s best interest to close it earlier because if it was open longer and more often it would raise the overall Meal Plan costs for all of the other students. So since, it is not as frequented as other establishments it’s not open as long because it is not cost effective to keep it open for longer. If you feel strongly about this matter and are okay with potentially raising the costs, feel free to email us or come stop by our office hours!

Keep Dave Gabrielson and Stephanie To as President and VP of USG
Because of a minor technicality that USG knew about leading up to the elections, USG determined that Dave and Steph are disqualified. The Student Body spoke and elected Dave and Steph. The technicality should have been addressed well before the elections, not afterwards. Let USG know that we want the President and VP to be the people that we elected!
370 votesCampus,
First of all, USG would like to apologize for all of the confusion and our error over the elections. It was determined after elections closed that the ticket that held David and Stephanie’s name was actually ineligible. USG made the mistake by putting them on the ballot; we knew the election packet was turned in late, but we did not realize it was a blatant violation of our bylaws. If we would have known this prior, their names would not have appeared on the ballot. Due to this mistake, and the fact that the ineligible candidates won the election, we are reopening the elections for the Student Body President and Vice President positions.
This election is open to any students who are interested in the positions of Student Body President and Vice President. A new timeline has been created, and is as follows.
April 16th: Election packets available for…

Periodic Table Themeing
The tables in the Periodic Table should have elements on each table. At minimum a periodic table of elements should be hanging on the wall.
30 votesThis has been brought up, and there is currently a committee looking into making this happen!

After Dark People Over Advertising
The After Dark People have literally broken every chalking rule that there is. They have given out fliers that were not approved by Res Life in the Res halls. They have exploited Blaster for a religious event, which is completely inappropriate. Something needs to be done, because this is just too ridiculous. They should be held to the same standards as any other event on campus.

Just wanted to let you know that we saw this and that the university is handling the situation.

EPICS department should be redone or get better funding
The Epics department is horrible. With a regular professor, a SolidWorks professor, and a drawing professor, it's overwhelming for students to work to each professor's expectations while using the same notebook. Not to mention, the class moves way too quickly. After one drawing class, the professor expected everyone to have 50 good drawings done by the next time she came to class, which was 5 weeks later. During that time, the Epics students had to work on the actual solution for the project-based part of the class in addition to learning new material and doing 20 vague homeworks on SolidWorks.…
8 votesHi there,
We just want to let you that the Epics department is actively being evaluated and restructured by university faculty at the moment. All your concerns should be address through this.

Rec Center Vending Machine
It would be awesome if the rec center had a vending machine specifically for post workout snacks. This could include protein shakes, protein bars, naked juices, and other healthy(er) snacks. The only place on campus to get these things is the Marketplace, so it would be much more convenient and time saving (especially for those who live off campus) to be able to go to a vending machine right in the rec center.

digger den open later instead of mines market
Digger den should stay open later rather than Mines Market. Digger den is for snacks and late night runs when your hungry and the late night options for Mines Market are not sufficient.
Digger den is also in closer proximity to a large number of students because of the dorm system.
The options available and the proximity are importany for students to have accessible for students. Another option would be for Mines market to have snack and the store like atmosphere of digger den.
1,203 votesBelow are all the details associated with this issue:
On Thursday, January 15th, Undergraduate Student Government had our first meeting of the semester. The main topic of the evening was Mines Market. With the opening of Mines Market and closure of Slate Café, there were changes in the hours of Digger Den. Mines Market is now open late at night while Digger Den’s hours were cut back. Also the previous to go option where students were allowed to grab anything Slate was offering that day was replaced with a to go sandwich with two sides. This has caused a lot of upset with the campus. As a result, USG asked a few staff members involved in this decision making process to come and speak about why this decision was made and take input on how things could be improved. Rebecca Flintoft, VP of Student Life, Gayle Witzke, Campus Dining, and…

Athletic Center weight room open to public
This should be open to the public whenever Varsity sports don't have them reserved for their set schedules. Our current weight room is the SRC is much too small for the demands of the students. Plus, the Athletic Center weight room supports free weight lifting for more students than the SRC, while catering to a small fraction that the SRC does.
14 votesThis is something that USG cannot pursue due to the fact that the athletic center was built with donor money with the intention of being a resource for the athletes. We do acknowledge your concern and will see if there is another possible solution to this problem.

A truck parking lot!!!
Big trucks do not fit in regular small compact spaces. I cannot downsize because I need a worktruck, and being so wide, many dents and dings are put in the side of my truck because there's not adequate space to open doors. There should be a designated lot for large trucks only.

Repair the roads around campus.
The roads are uneven and there are too many potholes. It is unpleasant to drive around campus.

Allow students to use the high dive at the Rec center.
The high dive can only be used by the mines dive team which, currently, is non existent. We all sign wavers when using the rec center. There should be no reason to not be able to high dive!

Graduation Hat Decoration
A really long time ago the person in charge of graduation did not like us decorating our graduation caps. Now, that person is gone but the policy still exist even though it is outdated. There is no valid reason for it. Graduation is crowded and this would make it easy for families to identify them. This issue could be a quick fix and good way for mines graduates to get creative.
357 votesHi!
Hopefully everyone noticed that decorating graduation caps was not only allowed, but encouraged! We’re glad enough students wanted to see it happen!

Actually Use the Emergency Alert
I feel like after the event near Mines Park last night it needs to be addressed. Last night there was an imminent threat, and once again no text about it and not even an email yet at 9am the morning after. This year there has been 2 potential shooters and a package that was viewed as a bomb threat. It'd be nice to actually make use of the system that is supposed to protect us. What's the point of testing the equipment if it is never going to be used. Last year I got a text about an active shooter…
55 votesThe Mines administration in conjunction with Mines PD are in the process of re-vamping the mines app which will contain a more comprehensive emergency alert function. In addition they are trying to implement a ‘notification’ system that will function like the alert system, in regard to non-pressing matters.

Dead Day Coffee
I don't understand why Sodexo would not have Starbucks and Einsteins open on the one day of the semester that students would spend the most money on coffee. Even just having it open during the morning is better then nothing.
49 votesUPDATE:
The sophomore class reps forwarded this suggestion to Sodexo and this year’s Dead Day, Starbucks was indeed open from 7:30 to 11:30am on Dead Day. Thanks for the suggestion and happy we could help!Sincerely,
