I am Ethan Lewellin, the at large to the faculty. This is a topic that was brought up last year and has had continued discussion into this semester. The good news is that Faculty Senate has rewritten the guidelines regarding final exam policy and this will be the case for finals. However, when it comes to midterms, it is unlikely that this will be able to be enforced. Professors are granted the freedoms to teach, instruct, and give assignments in a way they seem fitting, and assigning work and due dates falls under these freedoms. Even if a policy would be put into place, there would inevitably be professors that make the assignments due earlier or at midnight rather than at 11:59, technically a different day. I am sorry that this is likely not the answer you were hoping to here, but I can bring this issue up for discussion when the topic comes up.
