JUNIOR-- Rec Center Floor Dust Mop
The floors of the upper gym at the Student Rec Center do not get cleaned enough. With the amount of different sports that are played in the gym (Basketball, soccer, badmitton, floor hockey, etc), both for fun and for intramural, the floors can get pretty dirty and therefore slippery. I have witnessed several minor and some major injuries in that gym because people slip and slide on the floor so easily due to lack of traction. The Rec center administration does not seem to care because you have to sign a waiver to use the gym and they are therefore, not liable.
I would like to propose having a community Gym Floor Dust Mop located on the wall just inside the gym for members to use themselves whenever the floors are very dusty and slippery. I know students would be very happy to clean the floors themselves if the resources are available in order to prevent injuries add traction to the courts. This would be a very cheap fix that many who use the upper gym would appreciate. It would prevent many injuries in the Rec Center.
In addition, I believe the floors of the gym need to be resurfaced eventually. I am not aware of what sort of cost this would be, so I would not expect an immediate fix, but having a dust mop available for people to sweep the floors themselves would be a cheap, immediate fix to start preventing injuries. Taring a ligament or spraining an ankle is not to a college kid's advantage having to walk all around campus.
