We should give less money to the athletic department and more money to departments that need more faculty or more funding for research
So doing research on this, I could not find an itemized expenditure sheet as for what this institution pays for certain departments (which raises another issue that the institution should be more open about how they are handling our money). If I am wrong in what I am saying, then please attach an itemized expenditures sheet to this post proving such and I will be on my way including the means that this department makes revenue off of. With that being said, I am assuming that Mines pays a lot of money for our athletic department because of 1) Travel Costs 2) Paid Positions of Coaches 3) Uniform and Equipment Costs 4) Scholarships given out by the Athletics Department and any other general overall costs that are not covered in this description. However, the revenue made by this department is also very limited due to 1) Limited Advertisers for a D2 School 2) Not Selling Tickets to Students for the Games 3) Little to None National Recognition and Attention for Our Sporting Events and any other overall revenue means that I may have missed. However, this is a department that only encounters around 700 student athletes out of the 4400 undergraduate students. A majority of the student population does not come to Mines for its athletic department. We come here for amazing faculty and for knowing that we will have the skills needed to work in industry after attending here. What we are finding though is that some departments are understaffed and that some of our equipment that we use is out of date and irrelevant in the work force. I believe that money that is allocated for this department should instead be placed into the academic departments and campus construction projects so that we can receive the education that we were promised when we signed the dotted line and began paying the institution.

Q- Housing rates increase by 20-27%?
A- Housing is a separate department, it pays for itself, and needs to get out of deficit.Q- Possible increase of parking permit to $450+ ?
A- Parking operates on its own, it needs to pay for itself, and needs to get out of deficit.I ask why the Athletics is getting special treatment?

I completely agree with this. I did not come here to watch D2 sports, I came here for the academics. Make the athletes who want to play pay and charge students who actually want to go at the door.
