  1. Most of the computer labs on campus are absolutely disgusting

In my entire time at Mines, nearly every computer lab I have worked in has been very dirty. I think these computer labs, especially those in Alderson, need to be added to a cleaning schedule. If they already are on one, they need to be cleaned more frequently or someone needs to be in charge of making sure the cleaning gets done. With sickness already a massive problem students must deal with, the computers we are often required to be working on should not be as dirty as they are. I understand every computer lab isn't going to be spotless…

  2. MAC no longer asking for student input (2019)

In light of the recent release of the E-Days theme and the events, it seems like MAC is no longer asking the student body what it wants in terms of these events. E-Days is a hallowed event that brings students together and lets us relax for a single weekend. This event involves concerts that have (in the past) been at least voted on by the students and not even having the chance to put in an opinion makes it seem like MAC knows what is best for the student body. We should be able to decide how we want to…

  3. USG Deleting "What's Your Beef" Posts without Adressing Them

A post was recently made here expressing student frustration at the slow pace the administration is taking to address serious student issues such as parking and mental health. It quickly received a lot of votes, but suddenly disappeared. Considering that there are several inappropriate and joke posts that have been here for ages, this seems suspect. If something about the post was deemed to be inappropriate, I understand, but that should have been voiced. Instead, the post was silently deleted.

I can assure you, the post was not removed by USG through this account. It appears that it was marked as spam and removed by another user. We share the same concern for the deletion of the post. We will be looking into this more as well.

Also, in regards to the last post, we have begun talks with administration in regards to the post and will keep students informed on our findings.

We apologize for the deletion and will be looking into it immediately!

  4. CS should stop scheduling multiple 400-level courses at the same time.

Currently, Computer Science has 3 different 400-level classes in the 12:30-1:45 T/Th slot: Operating Systems, Simulations, and Networks II. I (and a lot of other people I know) would like to take multiple of these courses. However, Networks II is a special topics, and Simulations is fall-only. That means that even if we put off Operating Systems, which is offered both semesters, we may never have the opportunity to take all of these classes.

There are barely any CS classes offered on MWF. Why are we double- and triple-scheduling courses in this one time slot when we have almost every…

  5. Where my diploma at? - David (and everybody else)

I think that the registrar should send out the PDF diplomas to all the seniors that graduated in May.

I understand that the registrar is busy, but here are some numbers to show that it's wild that we haven't gotten them yet:

    Days since May 10th, 2019: 122
    Minus weekends (36 days): 86
Days if they took two weeks off: 76

If you assume that there was only one person in the registrar's office taking care of absolutely everything, I'd say maybe we'd lose 40 DAYS (1,600 working hours) to working on registration. That would leave 36 days. I understand…

  6. During the summer there's no need to force us to pay for a parking pass

Pretty simple really. The only reason that it's ok to make people pay for parking passes during the school year is because there's too many people and not enough spots. I get it. But during the summer there's always, always, spots available. Why can I not park in a half empty parking lot at the school I give thousands of dollars to to begin with, without paying for yet another fee??? If every other spot is available, clearly there's no need to enforce a monetary restriction on the parking spots. You guys are clearly just looking for another reason to…

  7. Delay and Cancellation Timing Announcements

Mines said that they would announce a delay or closure at 5:30 am. This would have benefited the rec center student employees as well as the swim team who all got up and came to campus and opened the building which then had to be closed five minutes later. There should be more accountability for Mines to actually stick to their word especially since this closure was due to road conditions that the people who drove on had to drive on again, thus risking their safety. Since campus is closed they do not have the option to stay in a…

  8. Clinic Parking

There should be a place to park when visiting the clinic. When you're sick and near death, you don't feel like walking to the clinic, especially coming from Mines Park or other remote places on campus. Maybe a temporary hanging tag so we could park in front of Weaver?

  9. Mines Needs to Improve Commuter Parking

I know I'm not the only person to complain about parking at mines, but it is absolutely a joke. This morning I pulled into the A/AA parking lot with what I thought was plenty of time to find a spot and walk to class. However, I circled the entire lot with several cars behind me and I could not find a single spot. I drove to the other commuter lot, and over to the football field to try and find parking and I couldn't find anything.I eventually jut gave up and parked in downtown Golden. It's ridiculous to charge students…

  11. Mines Park Noise from US-6 Rumble Strips

City of Golden (CG) completed the US-6 and 19th intersection around the beginning of Fall 2017. When summer hit and we had to open our windows (no ac in our unit) we've realized that the rumble strips were creating excessive noise. Causing us to lose sleep in the night and forcing us to choose between living in a very hot or a very noisy unit in the morning.
We've contacted CG and CDOT at the beginning of Fall 2018 so the issue can be remedied before summer. Apparently other residents in the area were suffering from the noise as well.…

  12. Homework Platforms

Stop making us pay for individuals pay 65$ for each course to do our homework. I am willing to do all of the hard work but $180 dollars to do my homework, on two different platforms which suck (I have had to go to customer service once for Sapling and twice for Pearson with which I spent 2 hours on hold total). They dont work and the campus obviously doesn't care about low income students who never got the opportunity of a scholarship. I work just as hard but I shouldn't fail a course because I can't afford to pay…

  13. A Good Lost and Found System

Over my time here at mines I have lost my keys, wallet, and more clothing items than I can count. More often than not I have never been able to find them again because there is no cohesive lost and found system. If you lose something in a building you have to contact the building manager because each building has a different lost and found policy, but no building manager contact info is listed anywhere students can find it. You have to do this for every building your item could have been lost in, and if you lost something on…

  14. There are not enough HASS classes for students to meet the requirement

Mines requires 3 humanities classes, but halfway through the second day of registration every single class other than NHV and Global Studies is full. How are students supposed to meet this requirement if only a handful of classes are offered with 30 seats each?

  15. We should be composting on Campus

If we are really about "Earth, Energy, and Environment" then we should give students the option to compost on campus. Both for students eating in the mines market and for students bringing packed lunches to school, we should have a compost option. The compost area could be placed on any of the schools land by Lookout and Mines park, or could be placed by clear creek where the school owns property that cannot be developed on from past contamination. Students could work for the school or earn volunteer hours turning the compost or moving it from pickup locations to the…

  16. Parking permits should begin and end during the 1st week of classes (or on census day)

The first order of business for returning students should NOT be renewing their parking permits. And students who are on campus over the summer should not be surprised on August 1st when they get a ticket for an expired permit. Get rid of the arbitrary August 1st date. Allow returning students to get settled and get funding for the semester straightened out before making them buy a parking permit.

  17. Make K-lot more connected/accessible

It's bad enough when you get stuck out in the K-lot, but the walk to campus feels extra long because the athletic complex is fenced off and locked. Although the distance is not a big issue, it would feel more like you are actually parking on campus if you could walk through campus to get to class. Unlock the gates, or make a designed walking path.

  19. AP/IB classes should count HASS/LAIS/EBGN elective credit

I do not understand why liberal arts AP/IB tests only count as free elective credits. There are so many HASS/EBGN elective credit hours required to graduate, and many AP/IB classes are parallel to the liberal arts electives provided here. Why wouldn't a 4 or a 5 on AP (or a 5-7 on IB) tests for classes like the following count?

    ~ English Literature and Composition
    ~ English Language and Composition
~ Macroeconomics (yes, this can count for EBGN 201, but only if you have received a 4 or a 5 on both this and Microeconomics)
    ~ Microeconomics (see above)
    ~…

  20. Peking Plate is Actually Inedible

This is a cry for help.

Today I was ridiculously hungry. So I went to Peking Plate for lunch. Huge mistake! The food was so bad that despite literal hunger pains I physically couldn't eat more than two bites before throwing it in the trash.
Even when it was Habaneros, the food wasn't great. But it's pretty hard to screw up a burrito, so it was at least a reliable source of food energy. Now they're making us pay for ACTUAL GARBAGE. Also, it's the same people/ingredients/effort as before. If y'all are going to put Jalapenos in your "Chinese food",…

Good morning! Thank you for voicing your concern with us! Earlier this past semester, the junior class representatives sent out a survey asking people for feedback on Peking Plate and based off of that feedback and after coordinating with Sodexo, Peking Plate will not be returning this Spring 2019 semester. It will remain full-time Habaneros!

    Best, USG
