  1. The Registrar has put senior finals the night before graduation.

The last two final time slots on the night of 5/11 have been scheduled for two all-senior classes. These should be moved to an earlier date, as we will have graduation activities to participate in and these exams are scheduled at ridiculous times for graduating seniors. Additionally, most of us have families travelling here to attend graduation and it would be nice to spend time with them the night before graduation versus studying and taking exams.

After meeting with the Registrars Office, they believe that changing the final exam schedule now would create more problems. However, we disagree. Please email President Johnson or Derek Morgan if not changing the common exam schedule is negatively effecting your graduation experience and putting undue burden on your families during graduation.

      Dean of Students: dmorgan@mines.edu

    • Access to E-mail After Graduation

It would be nice if we could have access to our Mines e-mail addresses even after we graduate. Other universities allow their students to use their e-mail addresses indefinitely and this will help graduates keep social, academic, and career ties.

        Hello!

We’ve been talking with the CIO about this and it looks promising! We will keep you posted on our progress!

        Love,

The Graduate Student Government is trying to extend the Mines email address out to 5 years. We will keep you updated on their progress!
        UPDATE:

This is a big topic and CCIT knows students want this. Last year there was not enough time to make the change but this year CCIT is starting earlier so current seniors can have this for when they graduate. USG can not promise this will happen this year but working with CCIT we hope it does.

      • Getting rid of sanitary product machines is not an answer.

Let me explain this to everyone. Sometimes your period starts and you were unaware of the fact that its coming. In that cast having access to sanitary products is massively important. Girl have to miss class periods some times because there period started unexpectedly and there are literally no where to get tampons.
The percentage of women at this school is going up, and that means that the sanitary products would be going bad less often.
Having working tampon machines at the busier buildings such as the student center, ctlm, brown, and MZ is immeasurably important. Access to sanitary products…

        • Meal Exchanges Should be Reinstated

I noticed after not having a meal plan last semester that subway, as well as the Periodic Table no longer do meal exchanges unless you have the agate plan I believe, and that only gives you 5. Is this a way to force us to eat at Mines Market everyday? That makes me angry as I think it is important to provide more variety in our meals. Also this could have been made up for with an increase in munch money but it was not. So what's the deal?

USG has engaged in a conversation with Sodexo about the meal exchanges. We are looking into the contract with them to see if we are able to bring them back. We will keep you updated as we work on this.

You can also attend the Food Committee Meeting on Friday at 12pm in Mines Market to voice this concern.

            UPDATE

USG has been able to extend hours at Mines Market, but not yet bring back meal exchanges. Thant is something we will continue to work toward for next school year.

          • The Registrar Office Permanent Staff are very Rude to Students

When students go to speak about their class schedules, graduation requirements, or transfer details, the registrar's permanent staff are rude. The email communications from the staff are short, uninformative, unorganized, etc., and when a student asks for clarification, the response is unnecessarily hostile and still unhelpful.

Direct communications are no better. However, if you complain or ask to speak to anyone who is higher in rank, you find out that their mother is their direct boss, and therefore your complaint falls on deaf ears.

If the registrar does not wish to interact with students, my suggestion is to go completely…

After the joint focus group between USG, students, and the registrar, we have come up with some solutions:
              1) The registrar is developing a survey that will be sent to all students who come into the office for assistance in order to get feedback on whether they completed their job effectively and to the satisfaction of students.
              2) The registrar has had two vacant positions recently, putting them slightly behind in processing.  Both of these positions should be filled by the end of the month so that they can better address students’ needs.

This is an ongoing process so please continue to leave comments of your experiences with the Registrar’s Office below (good or bad).

            • The credit card scanners at einsteins, subway, etc take way too long

It shouldn't take 2 minutes to process a credit card order at einsteins. The machines are ridiculous and it causes huge lines

Thank you for your feedback! We recently discussed this in a meeting with the head of CCIT and we just sent him another email to ask for an update about how they have been addressing the problem. We will keep you updated!

UPDATE: The Sophomore Class contacted the head of CCIT and he forwarded our email to Mrs. Goberis from Sodexo. She informed us that they have ordered a new credit card scanner for Einstein’s and that they are updating all credit card scanners over winter break. We hope that this will solve the problem!

                UPDATE:
We contacted Sodexo and CCIT again and they said they would work on improving the software for the credit card scanners over spring break. Please keep us informed if you don’t see any improvements after spring break so we can contact them again.
                Thanks!
                Sincerely,
                USG

              • Why is Oreprint a cash only service?

I'm not sure what the justification was for Mines implementing the Ore Print system but I think its a little ridiculous that we have to buy credits on prepaid cards and only with cash. The current system makes no sense, if I need to print a 5 page paper and I come up $0.06 short for just one page and I don't have cash the only option is to trek across campus to an ATM, which may or may not have money, get the minimum $20, come back to wherever I was printing, break the $20 so I can get…

                • update the mines.edu website

i think it's time to update or even better, change our mines.edu website. while other university's webs are going through some redesign, mines.edu remains the same year after year. The photos are old, some typos, not user-friendly, using "google search" to find something in mines.edu most of the time works much better than using the "search" of mines.edu itself. Our current school website does not really represent anything of the top school in the country.

                      • Crosswalks on Campus

Has anyone noticed that, though the concrete on the sidewalk will dip and imply that a certain path is ideal for pedestrian crossing, there are technically zero painted cross walks on campus?

                        • Why must Blackboard Course Evaluations Close so Early?

I feel participation rates for the Blackboard course evaluations would increase if they did not close on dead day. I cannot speak for everyone, but personally I am much more likely to complete the evaluations once I have completed my finals and am no longer spending time studying. Is there a reason they close the evaluations on dead day?

We contacted the people from Academic Affairs and asked them about extending the deadline for the Blackboard Course Evaluations. We will keep you informed and thanks for your suggestion!

Thanks for the feedback! We will ask to see why they choose dead day to end the evaluations and if they can be extended further in the future.

                          • The HDMI cables in Brown should be longer

Currently, almost all of the HDMI cables in the Brown conference and study rooms are inaccessible because they are only a foot or two long. The cables don't even reach the tables in most cases, which makes it difficult to host meetings and group study sessions, which is what the rooms are designed for.
