  1. Let us play with Puppies!

Mines seems very interested in our well being during finals..... So they should bring puppies on campus on Kafadar for us to play with during dead week, I know of colleges that do it to relieve student stress... Seems Brilliant.

  2. Fix our parking issues with a shuttle system, redesigning the current parking lots, more bike racks, or ANYTHING really

Parking is a huge issue for this campus. Whether you have a general or a commuter, you can never find parking and all of the lots are being taken away by new construction. I know of many students who have been absurdly late to classes because of this and I have experienced the same.

My personal experience today was the most frustrating I have experienced this far. I am a graduate student teaching a class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am. Parking is an issue every week... and this week I tried to prepare for that. I arrived to…

  3. Take down Mica's walls!

Mica, the amazing omelet chef at Mines Market has been wrongfully trapped behind thick glass panes. The intellectual and uplifting conversations that were once a morning routine are now blocked by the excessive sneeze guard glass. Mines Market needs to change this for the well being of Mica and the students that enjoy him so much.

  4. Flowers around campus

Just because we live in the Rockies doesn't give us an excuse to have an ugly campus. The landscaping around campus is pretty dismal if you ask me, besides in front of Guggenheim there is no real color around campus. All we have are those ugly "everbrown" plants in front of some buildings. I know Colorado has 4 seasons, but the campus always looks dull. I know Mines markets itself on its reputation, but the visual appeal of our campus does nothing to attract potential students if you ask me.

In terms of what could be done, a little goes…

  5. Lack of availability of feminine hygiene products in campus bathrooms is neglect of ~30% of the CSM population.

Most campus restrooms do not even have a feminine hygiene product dispenser, and those that do have not been stocked for months (or years). This is not a call for free hygiene products, but there should at least be availability to purchase these products in restrooms in the case of an emergency. This is a matter of hygiene, sanitation, and basic human rights. Dispensers should be installed in all restroom and should be stocked regularly.

  6. Chemical and Biochemical Engineering on DiggerNet

Many employers only check Chemical Engineering on DiggerNet for jobs, which disqualifies the Chemical/Biochemical Engineering students from applying. Considering that Biochemical Engineering students essentially have all the same chemical engineering classes and learning, it would be nice if something could be done about this to make the job search easier.

  8. The racquetball courts should be open later/on weekends.

Considering there are only two racquetball courts on campus and they are used by both people who play racquetball and those who play handball, it would be really nice to have access to the courts during more hours.

  9. Campus Wide Email with Finals Schedule

It is only through word of mouth that students are aware of Mines posting the finals schedule. Because finals are such a big deal, there should be an email sent out detailing the finals schedule. Yes, it is accessible online but we are never even notified when it is posted. Students need to book plane tickets and make arrangements for going home. At the least, notifications/ an announcement needs to be made of the schedule being posted.

  10. Plant more trees on campus

It seems that the campus has lost a lot of trees to construction projects and other things. It would be nice if more trees were planted... help make this place more pretty and provide shade to relax in.

  11. Construction and Parking Spring 2018 (Juniors)

This fall I have noticed time and time again, construction vehicles, contractors, and workers parked in campus parking lots or in general permit street parking. This will only be getting worse in the spring when more construction will be taking place. Students and teachers suffer from the administrations' negligence when it comes to parking on this campus. I understand that work may need to be done in a parking area and that the workers need somewhere to park but WE the students PAY to park in these spots, not them. It is time for the parking issues on this campus…

  12. JUNIOR

Online homework shouldn't cost students an arm and a leg! Paying $100 for a basic online submission system to use 10 times is not fiscally smart.

  13. MAC (Mines Activity Council)

MAC (Mines Activity Council) needs to have more checks and balances in place. I understand they plan a lot of the events on our campus but their organization should not be so much above all other campus clubs. Not only do all of their members get paid for the time they “work” but their funds also pay for them all to receive +$100 embroidered jackets every year, expensive retreat dinners (nice sushi restaurant) and a weekend trip to Boston (which I understand was for a conference but all other clubs have to pay for their own way to most events…

  14. Food Trucks: better/healthier food

Sodexo is terrible. Let’s use the new pedestrian plaza as a place to invite local food vendors to serve healthier, better quality, and locally sourced food.

Hello! In regards to Sodexo, Mines is currently in contract with them but USG’s Food Committee is dedicated to improving food on campus, including concerns pertaining to Sodexo. The committee is led by Willie Konishi, Junior class president. Your concerns for healthier options concerning Sodexo will be relayed to them. But in the grander scheme of things, we are concerned about health on campus as well and wanted to look into ways that we could support healthier food choices for students. In fact, USG has just began on an initiative to bring a “farmer’s market” type event to campus along with other clubs/orgs. We would bring in local farmers and businesses to participate so the Mines community can become more familiar with local and healthy food. This initiative is also being led by Willie Konishi, the Junior class president. If you are interested in helping us bring local and healthy…

  15. Open all the CLOSED restaurants on campus!

Since spring 2020 half of our dining spots have been “closed until further notice”. It made sense when campus was remote and nobody used them, but with the large freshman class and all classes back to normal, not opening these places will result in extreme crowding in mines market and long student center lines, already a problem last semester. The closed facilities (Einstein’s, SubConnection, Blaster’s Brew) are all in different buildings so opening them would really spread out lunch/dinner crowds and be better for everyone’s health.

  16. Update the Software Infrastructure at Mines

There are too many students on campus for the absolutely abysmal connectivity issues at Mines. Isengard crashes almost every day at 2 pm because the servers are overloaded. 90 percent of the time I have to rely on using data because the wifi goes down. If Mines is going to insist on admitting the ludicrous number of students it has (which honestly is a problem in it of itself) then they need to prioritize updating the outdated software and connection infrastructure. Students should be assured of having consistent connection to the internet at an ENGINEERING school

Last year USG was able to improve the REC center hours on weekends. They are staying open one hour earlier and one hour later on both Saturday and Sunday.

The REC center is currently in debt, but is climbing out of it. We should see more and more hours over the next few years as the REC center as they get out of debt.

  18. The piano in Brown should be moved back to its original location

The piano in Brown Building has been recently moved to the study area. I understand that in its original location, it was distracting to classes in W250, but now it is distracting to students studying nearly 24 hours a day.
The music's nice, but some people are embarrassed to play in front of all the students studying all the time (the old location was much more secluded).

UPDATE: We are going to decline this issue right now since it was posted so long ago but if it still an issue please just post again and then we will address it. We just don’t know if this is still an issue since it’s been two years.

The Junior Class USG is willing to take this project on. To formally voice your opinion and/or suggestions, stop by their office hours in Digger Den at 5-6pm on Wednesdays or by email at samcoope@mymail.mines.edu.

  19. Get rid of the pedestrian zone in the middle of campus!

No one's going to get run over by letting kids ride bikes there, there aren't any problems of people being hit by bikers in the rest of campus. A bike is an easy thing to maneuver, unless you suck at biking you're not hitting anyone. Even if someone got hit by a bike I doubt it would really injure them too much, I've taken much worse falls on my bike and walked away fine. I'd like to know how many people had an injury serious enough to require hospitalization as a result of a bike accident in that area before…

  20. Unga Bunga, Discover Thunder, Digger Den.

I recently upgraded from an old Rockintosh deskrock computer system to a laprock form to be able to do my stonework on campus.

But seriously, we living in the stone age or what? Digger Den is old as heck but in a time where everyone has a laptop, it's silly that only every other window bench in Ol' Diggy has outlets, and they're in the least convenient spots in the world. If a fine lady is wearing a skirt and sitting next to one of said ports, I don't want to accidentally lose my fedora while looking down to plug…
