Parking Garage Under New Buildings
What I am suggesting is when planning new buildings, design for a level or two of parking underneath. This is much cheaper than building a separate parking garage detached from the building. It also lowers the maintenance cost of a parking garage as the most expensive maintenance is the upper deck. This is done in many buildings including schools that we compete with. Attached are images proving my point.
As a school that does not promise on campus housing for 4 years, it is the school's responsibility to provide parking or transportation to and from campus. As Mines does not have busses, it is their responsibility to provide adequate parking. This solution would allow them to build new dorms and buildings while keeping or even increasing the number of parking spaces.
