Number of tickets for graduation.
if there is only room enough for 4 guests per person at graduation, then maybe we should use a bigger venue for future graduations.
33 votesUSG has had a meeting with the administrator who plans graduation. Although we only get 4 guests per person, you are able to request extra tickets!
Last year everyone who requested extra tickets ended up getting them (except for someone who requested 16 tickets).
They have also created other options to make it easier for your friends and family to attend graduation. For graduation this May, there will be an extra section in Kafadar for ANYONE to come and watch, no tickets needed. The section will be on the other side of Kafadar. It will have a giant screen set up where ticketless guests may sit and watch the graduation happening on the other side of Kafadar.
I agree that 4 sounds like a few, but in past years it has almost always ended up working out.

Larger foldaway desks needed in CO209
The current desks in CO209 don't even fit a full sheet of paper on them. And this makes testing in there a nightmare! I will have had 8 tests in CO209 so far this semester as of Oct 31, and many more are to come. I as well as many other people that I have talked with are fed up with testing on desks that are the size of dinner plates. And as a room that hosts a large amount of the tests at Mines, it seems that the desks in 209 should be more adequate for testing purposes
32 votesUPDATE: Contact Laura Medley to get information about classroom committee: lmedley@mines.edu
There is a classroom committee dedicated to providing funds for things like this. We don’t have the contact info for the committee head currently but we will find out who it is! Once we do they should be able to tell you how to apply to replace the desks in Coolbaugh.

Freshman should have to move their cars to the Jones lot
All freshman that are parked in Q lot should have to move their cars to the Jones lot and the remainder would have to park at the back of Q lot
34 votesThe following is a portion of a recent campus-wide email was sent out from Anna Welscott:
“Policy changes will accompany the addition of the new lots, which will reduce the number of vehicles on campus. Based on feedback received through the series of campus meetings held this past fall, policy changes include limiting the number of vehicles authorized for freshman resident hall students through a waiver/lottery system of 200 permits, and restricting Mines Park residents from purchasing a General or Commuter permit. These policy changes will reduce the number of vehicles parking on the main campus by approximately 400, and will open up spaces for the students, faculty, and staff who commute to campus.”
With this, we conclude this issue as Freshman parking will face a different structure starting this semester.

Slate needs extended hours
Weekend breakfast should start the same time as a weekend (I get up early on the weekends and have to eat off campus). Also, dinner at slate should be served after 7:15 p.m. Eating dinner at 8 pm isn't unreasonable.
18 votesUPDATE: The hours at the new market in Elm are going to be open longer, available for money, munch money, and meal swipes.
Sodexo is currently thinking about extending the hours of the Slate Cafe during the weekdays, potentially until 9pm. However, if this was the decided course of action, Slate would be closed for a few hours during the day when there is minimal traffic-same with early weekends.
Any further opinions about this subject can be sent to samcoope@mymail.mines.edu.
Chris Pacher (Junior Class USG) plans to bring this up at the next Sodexo dining committee meeting. We will update you with any new news. Thanks for being patient!

The "What's Your Beef?" page needs to be fixed
The "What's Your Beef?" site is riddled with bugs. I have tried to vote for ideas, post comments, and use other features this site offers and the site either freezes up or blacks out. What the heck!
3 votesAs far as we can tell, the bugs have been fixed and the website is functioning properly. Thank you!

Slate Cafe - Should get a new Ice Cream Machine.
In the past the Slate had an Ice-Cream Machine or Soft Serve Machine. Could Slate get a new one?
9 votesThe Freshman Class USG is currently looking into the logistics behind finding the funding for a new machine. We will update you with any new news we get. Thanks for being patient!

Lights for North IM Fields
While IM sports get the south fields (the ones with lights), the club sports (you know, the ones that actually go out and represent Mines to the community) have to practice on the north fields. In the fall, it gets dark before 7. That really sucks when a team's practice time is from 6-8. It makes hard to have a reasonable amount of practice.
4 votesAs of right now USG does not have the funding to help this and capital planning is so busy with the new buildings that this would not be a priority. Sorry there isn’t more that we can do!
Love,
USG
One of our executive members has taken this project on. Currently, the issue would be funding as the equipment and the installation requires more funds than Club Sports and USG has to offer. However, other alternatives are being researched and we will get back to you. Thank you for being patient.

Places to take a nap on campus
There should be a place(s) on campus where you can go and take a short nap or just relax and close your eyes for a little bit. Most of the students who live off campus don't live close enough to go home and nap if they only have an hour or so between their classes. There are many benefits to taking a short nap in the middle of the day, and at a school like Mines, time and sleep are very important.
1 voteThere are a variety of couches and resting areas for those awkward intervals between classes. Thank you for your suggestion, though!
